Sugar Skull – A Dia De Los Muertos Musical Adventure
Celebrate DIA DE LOS MUERTOS with the Oxnard Performing Arts Center on November 2nd at 6:00 PM! Enjoy guest artists and altars, vendors, nonprofit exhibitors, family-friendly activities, face-painting, and an epic show in the theater with SUGAR SKULL, A Dia de Los Muertos Musical Adventure! Sugar Skull is a joyous, heartfelt adventure that delves into the rich, tuneful traditions of Día de los Muertos. Featuring a company of gifted musicians and dancers, this colorful stage production is the perfect fall entertainment for youth and family audiences alike. Tickets are $15 ($10 for students with a valid ID), not including convenience or handling fees.
Ventura County Farm Day
On Saturday, November 9, 2019 more than 15 Ventura County farms, ranches, and agricultural organizations will open their doors and invite the public to experience a day of agricultural activities and tours during the 7th Annual Ventura County Farm Day. The tours are self-guided and FREE. You travel in your own car, at your own pace, visiting the locations most exciting to you. With 20+ venues to choose from, Farm Day has something for everyone. Tours are held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Farm Day is all about having fun exploring the community food system and learning about Ventura County’s rich agricultural heritage. Patchwork Show Ventura
Join Dear Handmade Life to shop from 100+ makers at Patchwork Show in Ventura. The show will be at the Ventura Fairgrounds, a block from the beach and just a few blocks from Ventura’s historic walkable downtown that’s home to some great restaurants, bars and shops. The venue has ample parking and the Fairgrounds has a train stop for Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner! If you’re not a Ventura local, take the train for excellent views, shop Patchwork Show, explore downtown and watch the sunset on the beach for an unforgettable day trip. The American Cancer Society is working to finish the fight against every cancer in every community. Surfers Point Marathon
Welcome to the 7th annual running of this all flat Ventura beachfront course on November 10th. All runners will be awarded a free glass of beer and a plate of street tacos at the post race expo! And yes, you can buy more beers or plates of tacos for $4 each (must be 21 or older for the beer). If you’re under 21, there will be free root beer. (Special note: Friends and family can buy food and beer tickets for $4 each.)

Course Description
Race starts times: Full marathon 7:00am, Half- 7:15 am, 5k/10k – 7:30am. Miles of Ocean views will keep you in awe as you stroll along the Ventura beachfront. Mostly flat, two loop Full marathon course. Half Marathon, 5k and 10k distances available too. Certified Boston Qualifier Course (USATF Cert #CA17064RS )
Weekend warriors / Beginners / walkers:
Yes, very walker friendly course, mostly flat, plenty of water stations, and loads of fun! Generous 7:00 hour time limit for the Full marathon so take your time and enjoy the scenery, all levels of fitness are welcome at our events.
Middle of the pack runners:
Great course for a new PR (personal record) this year. Mostly flat course, gentle ocean breeze and plenty of room to make your move towards your PR.
Elite and Advanced runners:
This mostly flat course along the Historic Old Rincon Highway and a great way to test your speed. Beautiful ocean views, cool temp, fun people and a cold glass of beer after the race.
All Runners will receive a finisher medal, water bottle, and race day athlete tech shirt. This race is part of the Surfers Point Race Series. Finish all three races in the series and you will receive a special series finisher medal.
Three-Quarter Day Wildlife Cruise
This Three-Quarter Day Wildlife Cruise typically cruises the rugged shoreline and surrounding waters of Western Santa Cruz Island. Passengers on this trip will view Painted Cave, one of the world’s largest sea caves. Passengers booking this trip should be prepared for a long day at sea with warm, layered clothing, and low-soled, good-grip shoes. Although there is a galley onboard that sells snacks and drinks, passengers will want to bring a lunch for their time on the boat. The Three-Quarter Day Wildlife Cruise will be on November 10th and ticket prices can be found in the table below.
David G. Garcia, Ph.D. Lecture & Book Signing
Join the Museum of Ventura County on Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 3-4:30 p.m. for a lecture and book signing by David G. Garcia, Ph.D. Admission is Free for Museum members, $5 for nonmembers. David G. Garcia, Ph.D. will be signing copies of his book, “Strategies of Segregation: Race, Residence, and the Struggle for Educational Equality”.
Dr. David G. García is an associate professor in the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies. He is a first generation college student who transferred from Oxnard College to UCLA, where he earned a B.A. in Sociology with a specialization in Chicana/o Studies, an M.A. in Latin American Studies, and a Ph.D. in U.S. History. His research and teaching follow three lines of inquiry, (1) Chicana/o teatro (theater) as public revisionist history, (2) the pedagogy of Hollywood’s urban school genre, and (3) Chicana/o educational histories.
Dr. García will present his book, Strategies of Segregation: Race, Residence, and the Struggle for Educational Equality (UC Press, 2018), which critically documents a history of racially separate and unequal schooling for Mexican American and Black students in Oxnard, California. The presentation will highlight interviews of community members and former students who endured and challenged segregation.
The Color Run
The Ventura Color Run is a five-kilometer, untimed event at the Ventura County Fairgrounds on November 23rd, starting at 7:00 AM. At each kilometer mark, Color Runners are doused from head to toe in a different colored powder. Participants wear white at the starting line and finish the race plastered in color. Once the race is over, the fun continues at the Finish Festival, a larger-than-life party equipped with music, dancing, photo ops, activity booths, vendors, and more massive color throws, which create millions of vivid color combinations. This is the best post-5K party on the planet!
Color Runners vary in demographics and reasons for running. With no winners or official times, The Color Run caters to everyone – first-time runners to seasoned athletes. More than half of the participants are first-time 5K runners. The Color Run is proud to be a catalyst that inspires participants to live a more active lifestyle, on top of having fun! 79th Annual Turkey Night Grand Prix
The 79th Annual Turkey Night Grand Prix is one of the most talked about events in the USAC Midget racing industry. Held in beautiful Ventura, right on the beach, this venue is spectacular for the prestigious 98 lap main event. On Wednesday, November 27th, the Midgets practice all during the evening while the USAC/VRA Sprint Cars run their hot laps, qualifying, heat races and a special main event for an additional purse. Some of the drivers in that main event gain a “seat” in the A Main the following night, Turkey Night.
On Thursday, some of the double duty drivers are now really put to the test! The schedule calls for Sprints to continue their program of Semi Mains and the A Main event, while Midgets run through their entire program.
You do not want to miss this! NASCAR drivers, such as Christopher Bell (2017 & 2018 winner), Kyle Larson (2016 winner) will compete, with most of the USAC top drivers in the nation.

Ventura Turkey Trot
The 13th annual Ventura Turkey Trot will take place on Thanksgiving Morning at the Ventura Auto Center. A great way to kick off your holiday morning with the whole family. Awards, Booths, Food, and Jolly Jumps for the Kids provide a fun time for all. Participants are also asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate which we will donate to the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging Food Drive. Tickets for the 5K run/walk are $35 while the kids 1K is $10.
